Even the backs of buildings possess visual charm.

  1. We have been up-dating this IOOF building with new electric system, doors, all new windows and new roof. Now, starting the process of fixing up the visual appearance of the backside of the building. It houses one of the few active IOOF lodges in the area, and hosts (to renter) Lake Lifestyle gift shop….one of the more popular stores in Clear Lake.

    • Thank you for sharing about the updates to this historic building. It’s bee a while since I’ve visited Clear Lake. What a beautiful town and not all that far from my home in Faribault, Minnesota.

      • Greg's avatar Greg Says:

My brother and his family live in Kenyon. My St. Paul sister just bought a ‘vacation’ home in Clear Lake. I wrote and produced the Clear Lake history documentary. One of the many new things in Clear Lake is my wife’s vintage goods store, Weekend Junk Warriors. Highly rated on the mid-century moderne circuit. [It’s in the former Lam Inn Restaurant building.] Oh, also, I possess the original collection of (the most amazing) ‘Letters of Bid Brown’ that were written in and about family life in the Twin Cities from the 1920s to the 1980s. I’m still looking for a publisher…..

      • Ah, then you are familiar with Faribault. Kenyon is a wonderful little community. Your wife’s “junk” business sounds like something I would enjoy shopping at. Kudos to you for creating a history doc on Clear Lake.

I admit ignorance as to who Bid Brown may be. But the subject matter sounds like it would interest a publisher. Maybe a small Minnesota press?
