I WAS NEAR GIDDY as I crossed the Buckham Memorial Library parking lot.
There, there sat that car. That car. The one I’ve watched zoom up the street past my Faribault home many times.
I’ve always wanted to photograph this Joseph’s coat of many colors automobile. And now, with my camera available, I could.
But wouldn’t you know, just as I grabbed my Canon from the van, droplets of rain spurted from the sky. I folded my camera inside my cardigan and hurried toward the car to snap a few quick frames.
Close up, I noticed that what I thought to be duct tape was, instead, reflective tape in primary colors plus black, white and brown adhered to this Cadillac Cimarron.
I got my photos. Now I need the story.
Who owns this work of art?
Why is this Caddy covered in tape? Is the owner making an artistic statement? Or was this tape adhered for some practical reason?
Thoughts? Let’s hear.

It’s all tape???? Not paint??? It is awesome and truly a work of art. Judging from the age of the car I suspect it started out as a repair project and they spiffed it up and couldn’t stop! I hope you find out the answer to who it belongs to and why they did it!!!
I should have left a note on the windshield to call me. Next time…
Hope you see it again!!!!!
I just saw it parked downtown on Saturday. And, stupid me, I did not take the time to leave a note.
I probably wouldn’t have either!!! 🙂
This would make for a great story, looks like someone spent alot of time making sure the lines were straight, it’s actually quite a masterpiece 🙂
I agree. It would have taken a lot of time, and patience, to create this car.
What an idea…..maybe the car needed a paint job, couldn’t afford it and decided to do it this way. Let’s hope you do indeed find out “the rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say….
Always loved Paul Harvey’s stories. Next time I see that car parked somewhere, I will leave a note on the windshield. I promise.
Perhaps the owner of the car at the time, ordered a tape deck, but got “Tape Bedecked” instead! But, that’s the way the “Cimarron Rolls”, especially with lots of butter.
You win the award for “Most Witty Commenter on Minnesota Prairie Roots.”
Tape???!!!!!!! Really!!!!!????? I most definitely need to know the “rest of the story”!!!!!!!!!! Your assignment, if you wish to accept it…………. Hugs……..
I recognize that “if you wish to accept it…” from Mission Impossible. I expect I’ll eventually get a tip on the artist, or see the car parked again somewhere.
Patiently(?) waiting…………
Well, I don’t know how long you’ll have to wait. How patient are you? 🙂
Not very, but I am realistic, too!!!!!! Ha!
I’m not a patient person either.
Hmmmmm….we DO have a bit in common, don’t we!!! Hugs…….
Maybe they wanted the De Stijl look: https://www.google.com/search?q=de+stijl&client=firefox-a&hs=Qxf&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=mGOeUt-RAtKAygGi4YGgBA&ved=0CEMQsAQ&biw=1920&bih=958
Now that’s interesting, Amy. Clearly you know your art, including this similar style of Dutch art. I appreciate your tipping us off to this possibility.
I can’t believe it’s been done by tape! What an unusual look for a car. I wonder if this type of ‘car-styling’ will become a trend! xx
Isn’t it just the coolest car? You should ask the “car expert” in your house for his opinion on the car.
Almost reminds me of the bus from the Partridge Family. In my opinion, if we can have duct tape prom dresses why not car art?
You’re dating yourself, Mike. But that’s OK. The 70s are my era.
I thought this was duct tape on the car, too, until my husband corrected me and said it was reflective tape. Whatever kind of tape, people find plenty of ways to express their creativity with it.
Oh well, my dwindling hair supply is dating itself so that’s ok. As a graphic designer, I’m on board w/ all sorts of creativity as long as it isn’t just trying to pass off filth as art.
I’m with you. “Clean” art, please. Be sure to check back tomorrow for another art post.
How crazy that the car goes past your house all the time! It reminds me of Lego. And that’s why I like it!
It passes my house quite often, often enough that I notice. But who wouldn’t notice a car like this. I like your comparison to Legos.
