I WISH I HAD MORE than one down comforter with duvet cover to give away.
But I don’t. So Virginia, who coordinated with me on the give-away of bedding she no longer needs because she lives in warm and sunny Arizona, and I chose a winner. One.
Drum roll….
Merri McElderry penned the winning entry. This Minnesotan’s poem best met our request for entries that were creative and proved a true need for Virginia’s king-sized down comforter.
Here’s Merri’s poem:
If I could win this downy gift,
It surely would make me feel less adrift,
In icy wind and blowing snow,
It would I am sure uncurl my toe,
And I would fall on unfrozen knees,
Giving thanks to God, for miracles such as these.
Merri, please claim your prize by commenting on this post with your mailing address. (Your address will not be published.) Congratulations.
Thank you to all who entered and to Virginia for her generosity. She is making a difference.

What a nice thing to do. Very cool (and by that I mean warm)! Congrats, Merri.
It all started with Virginia…
And what’s especially cool about this winner is that she lives in Virginia, Minnesota. A gift from someone named Virginia given to Merri in Virginia. She was meant to win this comforter.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! As you can all well imagine, the tears are flowing and have not stopped since I found out about this glorious gift of grace to me!!! I am between dancing with my cat, and singing with my parrot and just sitting in such awe of just how when one might think the journey is uphill, there is a wonderful , slide down the hill into the warm sun wheeeeeee . THANK YOU so much Virginia, and the town of Virginia welcomes your beautiful comfort in this comforter with such open arms. My toes will uncurl in toasty joy. Also I must mention that this blog here has saved me so many times. It has brought me deep understanding for what gratitude is, as the writings here and photos always depict gratitude for blessings given. Being a farm girl, and longing for home, this is home for me every day. The warm hearth shared here for all of us, is priceless. THANK YOU ALL for your warm love and I will let you know when this feathered love arrives… JOY TO THE WORLD!!!! …too many joyous tears.. Hugs to all, Merri
Merri, now you are making me cry with your words of gratitude for Virginia’s gift and for the thoughts and images I share here.
Your love for the written word is obvious to me in the creative way you penned your comment today and in your original poetic entry. Thank you.
You and I seem sisters of the heart in many ways. I am happy to help you on life’s journey via this blog. We’re in this together and many have walked beside me, too, offering encouragement and prayer when I most needed it.
Congratulations and what a great poem.
Yes, Merri’s poem won our hearts.
Yay for Merri, stay warm 🙂
What a clever idea having this comfort contest and sounds like a very deserving winner. Yes, it’s cold in Virginia MN
