SUNDAY INTO MONDAY brought significant snow to parts of Minnesota, about eight inches to my community of Faribault.
And many of us are acting like this shouldn’t have happened. After all, we basked in a recent streak of unseasonable 50 and 60-degree temps—shirt sleeve, bike riding, I want to uncover the perennials kind of weather.
But I didn’t.
As a life-long Minnesotan, I know better.
March often brings snow. The wet, heavy type that stresses muscles, that feels like shoveling rocks.
But typically the snow melts quickly under the March sun. That is the single solace I find in spring snowfalls. Their life-span is short.

Pretty picture. Are you supposed to get snow again today? This winter does seem to be dragging on and on, but it is the Mid West.
Yes, rain mixed with snow predicted for this evening.
We aren’t really safe until May…and that is debatable. In the not-too-distant past we got socked the first part of May I think – or was that April. I recall getting snow the second weekend of April frequently back in my 20s/30s over trout fishing opener while camping stream-side. That made for some chilly mornings, but great memories. Ah…Minnesota 🙂
Your memory is correct on that recent May snowfall. My husband wanted to empty the remaining gas from the snowblower on Monday because it’s not good for gas to sit in there. I looked at him and said, “We still have the rest of March, then April and then May to get through. It will snow again.”
March wants to go out like a lion – ROAR!!! Happy Day 🙂
Apparently.
and I am missing it….ugh!!! It’s kind of ironic how we traveled up to the north shore to experience “winter” on lake Superior only to be too late. The only snow left is in the “mountains” as they call them up here. I’m eager to return home to hopefully get a glimpse of the 8 inches that fell in Rochester. Your snow photo is beautiful, at least I’m enjoying it in photo’s.
You better hurry home. Warm temps and predicted rain should start the melting process.
Ha ha… we’ll probably miss it, oh well, there’s always MAY 🙂 (remembering the big snow dump of 2013)
Oh, how well I remember.
Oh dear. I feel for you. We had snow Monday, but only three inches, and it’s melting fairly well. Spring will come eventually!
Spring always does come. Some years it just takes longer than others.
Now don’t laugh but I was telling hubby the same thing on our end…we’ve had temps in upper 70’s and to be 80+ tomorrow. Way too warm for March… plus tress are coming out, etc., and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if we didn’t get a freak cold front with ice again. Hope not but then we never know…
More snow here last evening. But the sun is shining and I hope the snow melts so I don’t need to scrape it away.
Jeepers! Well thankfully, the snow won’t last long this time of year. I hate to tell you but we reached 79° here today! 🙂
But you just told me. 🙂 I’d take even 59 degrees again.
We all get weary about this time of year in Iowa as well. It is just time for it to all leave and stay away. 🙂
This week. I am certain the snow will melt this week.
