When you’re not into Star Wars December 21, 2015

MY KNOWLEDGE OF STAR WARS is limited. I would recognize Darth Vader if I saw him on the street. I know there’s a Princess Someone or Other. And Luke Skywalker. Yes, I remember that name. But that’s about it.

I grew up watching Lost in Space on TV with characters like Judy, Penny, Will, Don and the evil Dr. Smith. And a robot whose name may have been Robot.

You never know what art will be showcased in Hot Sam’s Interstate 35 display. I’ve seen a shark, guitar, submarine…and now this spaceship.

Sci-Fi, though, as an adult, is not my genre. Still, I had to wonder about the spaceship suspended in an artsy display along Interstate 35 at Hot Sam’s Antiques near Lakeville, south of Minneapolis. I last visited Hot Sam’s in 2012. This one-of-a-kind place features an eclectic mix of art and old stuff scattered over several acres.

The hovering spaceship.

Hot Sam’s hovering spaceship.

Recently, the spaceship was added to the highly-visible hilltop Interstate collection. I thought perhaps it was a Star Wars ship replica. At this point, feel free to laugh. My son may have snickered when I asked. “Uh, no, Mom.” he said.

To all you Star Wars fans, my apologies.

More info, please. I’m not a Star Wars fan either, so WHAT is it?

Speaking as one who is not enamored with this current tidal wave of frenzy, I saw the first and second movies and, I will have to say, when the Starship flew over my head at the opening of the first installment, it brought chills……….which, by the 2nd movie, had faded for me! I’ve always loved the hokey Saturday afternoon Sci-Fi movies (most dubbed English over the obviously Asian that was spoken!) but Star Wars is a different breed of cat! Just as I wasn’t, and am not, a “Trekky”. The massive consumerism that has resulted is marketing genius! But tell me, which came first……the public’s demand(?) for merchandise or the manufacturers’ delight in putting forth another “black hole” for the ravenous devotees to pitch their $$$$$????? LOL!!!! I’m standing back from the fracas…………………..

Nope; that’s no Millennium Falcon – or so Google confirms. Admittedly, I am not Star Wars super-fan. I have seen any movies beyond the original three and do not recall much detail from them either. This new one sounds like a huge hit at the box office so far.

Driving by Hot Sam’s is always a treat. You never know what will be up on the hill. I keep telling my wife that I need the shark. She doesn’t think so. What does she know anyway?

Yoda is cute! Other than that I am with you. The spaceship is an interesting creation though

I saw the first Star Wars movie, but that was it. The closest I have come to the hype, is a purchase I made last week for a step grandson.. At Target, they had a really nice shirt, at a very reasonable price. He was the last one on my list. HOORAY!!

The space ship looks so, so, but the car in the picture looks like something Gru from the movie Dispicable me would drive! I too remember the lost in Space series and the obnoxious Dr. Smith. Kind of a corny series but entertaining for the age that I was at the time and it was on during prime time!

My compliments to Hot Sam. Since I-35 is just a short drive from my house (in Texas), I may think of driving up some day soon!
I too, grew up with Lost In Space, My all time space cadet movie was “2001”. Star Wars I & II grabbed my interest, but what does one expect from a graduate of Roswell High school, Roswell, NM. Ya’ll have fun now and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Oh my gosh!! This is such a funny post. I’m laughing at your son’s, “Uh, no Mom”. I never saw Star Wars and Sci-Fi is not my thing. We rarely watched TV when we were kids either. My Dad called it the “nut” box. So, now, Forrest and I watch a lot of the classic movies, and I indulge in the old shows every once in a while. I still don’t watch much TV. I’m a weirdo I guess. 🙂

  10. I’m a Star Wars fan but I still love you despite your lack of knowledge of The Force!

I’m not a Star Wars fanatic by any means, I do know all the characters and have seen all the movies (we own them). Rick and i went to the movie the other night and really enjoyed it. It brought back memories of being a teenager, sitting at the theater with Rick when that 1st movie came out in 1977. I’m glad it was still HE I was sitting with on Sunday when we watched the newest epic film.
