I received this loving text message from my husband Tuesday morning: Do not shovel snow. It’s freezing mist now and sidewalks would get icy.

He does NOT want another bone break in the family. It looks really lovely with that shovel artfully placed. 🙂 We got some freezing rain last night and it is only 31 degrees this morning so everything is closed, shut down and schools cancelled. We are wimps here in NC when it comes to icy roads but with our twisty windy roads it is better to be wimpy. Stay safe.
You’re not wimpy, but smart. Ice is nothing to mess with. Driving home from work last evening, Randy watched as a pick-up driver nearly lost it after passing several vehicles at a speed way too high for road conditions.

We don’t have that much snow this year. The photo is from several years back. But we got about five inches the other day and had to shovel it all because the snowblower broke. Shoveled our walk and drive and that of an elderly neighbor. I am getting way too old to shovel. My back feels it.

The older I get, the more cautious I am in winter. Especially since those bone breaks, which happened in late spring and had nothing to do with winter.

OMG, I loved this post! Absolutely loved it! I saw a play one time that was set in a mental institution, and all the patients exhibited different types of issues. One gal was sweet and winsome, and was always worried about her fellow patients. Of’ course, I cannot remember the exact wordings, but she was always suggesting to all the guests how to take care of themselves: take an umbrella, it might be raining; be sure to watch your step; eat some dinner before you go. And then, she said, and this is out of context, about how many ways there are to say “I love you.” Your husband said that to you with a sweet note of concern for your safety. How wonderful!

No, Sue, that’s a file photo. See the caption. We have several inches on the ground with our most recent snow (last Friday) bringing around five inches.
A childhood friend of mine unfortunately died two years ago from shoveling snow. He had an undiagnosed heart condition that went undetected his whole life. It’s terrible that we hear of this kind of tragedy ever year. Freezing mist would make the snow heavier. Ice, well, I’m sure you would rather not go down the route of another broken bone…. Kudos to Randy. He was certainly looking out for you Audrey!
Keith, I am sorry for the sudden death of your friend. I’m more and more careful now when shoveling, especially if the snow is heavy and wet. I advise Randy also to take breaks. We’re not young any more. Hopefully he will either get our aged snowblower fixed soon or we’ll buy a different one.
