NO MATTER HOW MANY YEARS you’ve witnessed them, the first snowfalls of the season always feel magical.
Snow began falling here in Faribault late this afternoon, dusting the earth, the rooftops, the roadways.
I expect the precipitation will be just enough to slick up the roads. Be careful out there.
IS SNOW FALLING where you are?

For some reason I start singing Jingle Bells when I hear it snowing or see it snowing. I know I am a weirdo – ha! Happy Weekend:)
OK, you said it, that is a little weird. But, so what?
Roads a little wicked here in Evan.
You should not be venturing into the prairie on a night like this. Or perhaps you were there before the snow started falling. Be safe and maybe hole yourself up in Evan for the night.
We came over at 1 to babysit. Nothing until west side of New Ulm, where it was a mist. A mile later there was some build up. Two miles later there was an inch on the ground.
OK, then, you know how nasty the weather can get in that part of the state, especially if the wind picks up.
Nothing yet! I think we are in the corner that may possibly be left out of this weekend mess!?!!!!
All I can say is “lucky you.” I heard a report on the local radio station that traffic was backed up northbound from Faribault all the way to Lakeville on Interstate 35. That was around 6 p.m. Apparently quite a number of vehicles in the ditch. This was reported by a listener who phoned in.
On his way home from work, my husband encountered an accident on Highway 3 between Northfield and Faribault involving a 4-wheel drive and another vehicle.
So, yes, roads are slick in our region. Just stay home, I say.
Hope you are home for the eve!!!! Blessings……
Yes, Randy arrived home around 7 p.m. after being delayed by that accident on Highway 3. We didn’t go anywhere.
Looks like our little sliver of geography may get missed in this one! Can live without the hassle. Not sure if we will get 1″-2″ by tomorrow afternoon. Piano/holiday music in town (Houston)at the nursing home tomorrow afternoon. I can always take DH’s big pick-up! Rushford’s winter parade is tonight but staying home and finishing a little quilted project for g.grand is more appealing! Hugs……
Sounds like you’re all set for the weekend. We just got back from the Nutcracker on Ice show at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School. Fabulous show!
I LOVE the Nutcracker!!!!!! I have the ballet DVD and watch it as a Christmas tradition. Well…….forget what I said about the snow missing us…..3″-5″ is what they are predicting and me thinks that we will forgo the drive to La Crosse for church……it has proven treacherous in the past in similar circumstances! Have a great day!!!!!
Ah, yes, best not to venture over to LaCrosse. I’ll be calling my mom in southwestern Minnesota later today for a weather update.
Up here in the Twin Cities, it’s been lightly snowing most of the evening. Just a little slick around 10 when we came home from the movies. I’ve been waiting for snow to stick! You’re right about that magic.

So happy roads did not get worse. Our eldest daughter’s boyfriend, who relocated from LA to St. Paul in October, is quite excited about the snow and learned how to brush snow from a car last evening.
Our 1st Christmas party tonight was made more festive because of the light dusting of snow we got. It wasn’t much but that’s ok, I’m still counting it! Sounds like there might be some more on Sunday….Lets hope 🙂
I know how much you love winter, so I expected you would be thrilled. Perfect that it fell for your first holiday party.
We didn’t get a flake and when I got up this morning I was sure there would be some on the ground but nada!!! I am ready for just a little snow—not a lot—just that first cover that makes it feel more festive!!!
I was thinking, oh, I’m so glad Beth Ann and Chris did not have to travel on I35 to Faribault Friday evening. The snow will come. I just bet it will.
Maybe tonight…..I guess I should not be overly anxious for it…
Still several weeks until Christmas. No new snow here other than the dusting from last night.
I need to decide in an hour or so if We are heading back to Mankato today or staying here in Evan through Monday morning, as per forecast for a few inches tomorrow. Wish the weather folks did not like overstating snow forecasts. Then my wife just woke up with a bad lupus attack. So do I try to get her home where she will be more comfortable and we will be closer to the ER where they know us and have all her records or do I just not take her out? MN 511 shows blue (fair) for the roads home, but they too like to make things look worse than they are.
A difficult situation to be in. I have not heard/read a forecast lately. And by now you’ve made the decision. I just know I would not want to be stuck in a small town on the prairie if the snow flies and the wind howls and you know you might suffer a medical emergency. I hope your wife is doing better.
No snow here in northern Illinois. I have my fingers crossed for a white Christmas.
There’s time. Thanks for the report.
So happy to have some snow! Yes, it makes driving more difficult, but doesn’t it just look beautiful? We have a big white bunch of it here in Chanhassen. Lovely. Makes me even more excited for Christmas. 🙂
Yes, it’s beautiful. I spent my entire afternoon inside a gymnasium, so I missed out on the beautiful afternoon and the opportunity to photograph our winter wonderland.
We only got about 2.5 inches. We were gyped.
Winter has only begun, Gretchen. I expect southwestern Minnesota will get a blizzard or two.
I hope so. Last year we got almost nothing and truly, we desperately need the moisture. The lakes are drying up – the lake that Wgtn gets water from is near our house and it’s just shockingly dry.
I’ve noticed the low water levels too every where we travel. The low level of Lake Michigan in Door County was even noticeable when we were there in October.
Wow. That’s sobering.
