IN THE MIDST OF WEDDING preparations, I’d nearly forgotten that my birthday fell four days after my eldest daughter’s nuptials. That would be today, the day I edge another year nearer to 60 than to 50.

But my daughter’s new mother-in-law remembered, arriving with a gigantic birthday cookie on Saturday, wedding reception venue set-up day. Lynn is so incredibly thoughtful. She wanted to make sure I was remembered in all the busyness of wedding planning and prep. How sweet.

The other sweet thing is that the cookie was inscribed with “Happy Birthday Audrey!” I can’t recall ever having my name written on a birthday treat. Ever.

To be remembered like this, to have my family and my girl’s new family pause in reception set-up and sing Happy Birthday as my now son-in-law carried the personalized birthday cookie to me touched me deeply as did the photographs taken of me. It is wonderful to feel so loved and cherished.

Happy birthday! I thought of you yesterday as I was wishing my sister Marilyn her birthday wish for today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUDREY!!! From one of your many blog readers. 50 or 60 isn’t old, if one was a TREE. Kidding aside, life will only get better and better from here on. Grandchildren will be the next step, and they are the greatest! We have one, and wish for more, but that won’t happen. Holidays will be wonderful too, as now you have extended family to celebrate with. I was wondering if you had those little “minty” things for the Wedding Reception? The first time I commented on your blog was about those little soft minty things, that are so good., and you had made a million of those things for some party you had. By the way, why do all you Women, including my Wife, look so young, and us old guys look like we went through the washing machine, and were meant to be dry cleaned only? Have a very Happy Birthday!!!!

Allan, thanks for starting my birthday off with a laugh. You are the best when it comes to shaping words in to humorous takes.

Just between you and me (well, my hubby knows this, too), people always think he’s older than me when, in reality, I am older than him (by two weeks). I think it’s the hair thing. My secret: hair dye.

I would have loved to have had homemade mint candies at Amber’s wedding. But my 81-year-old mom and a few aunts recently retired from decades of making them. Can you imagine that?

Thank you for your humor filled birthday wish. I always appreciate your comments.

A Happy, and very Blessed, Birthday, Audrey!!! And, yes, the day is so noted (as Beth Ann observed!!). Although the rains are desperately needed, this day is beautiful and I’m lovin’ the sunshine!!! Enjoy!!! Hugs……

Thank you for your sweet wishes, Jackie. I have nothing special planned except dinner out with my husband. Also hoping to hear from my three “kids,” although I’d excuse the eldest if she forgot given she is currently honeymooning in Hawaii. My mom will probably call, too.

  14. Happy Belated Birthday Audrey!
September is a great month–umm, I just had a birthday a couple of weeks ago! I say next year we get together for a little lunch/birthday fun!

  15. It is easy to be forgotten in such craziness – how lovely that she remembered and made a point of celebrating YOU! Sounds like she’ll be a great part of your life and your daughter’s too!

Lynn is one of those incredibly thoughtful people. She lives in California, so we’ll rely on technology to keep in touch. Amber and Marc, however, will make many trips west, I’m sure.
