THIS IS HOW MUCH my husband and I know about current day cartoons. We confused these snow sculptures with Sponge Bob Square Pants:
Yes, go ahead and laugh.
Can you see the similarities between Sponge Bob and the Minions? OK, maybe not so much. But to the untrained don’t have kids at home or grandkids yet, the two different cartoon characters do kind of resemble one another.
Kurt Klett recently sculpted these Minions from the Universal Pictures 3-D movie “Despicable Me” in his Faribault front yard. This marks the sixth year he’s created a snow sculpture. Soon he’ll change the heart to a shamrock in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
The “Fight MS” message is Klett’s personal campaign to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis. He has the disease.
You have to admire a guy who, each year, crafts snow sculptures, especially in a winter like this with minimal snow and plenty of frigid temps.
His artwork brings a bit of fun to a long, cold Minnesota winter.

Apparently I need to see the movie to understand the appeal of Minions.
I’ve not seen the flick but only trailers and they seem silly in a refreshing way (but maybe that’s only the “G” rated trailers……I don’t know!).
Based on the trailer, I think I would enjoy this movie.

Love the Minions – I recognized them right away. There is actually a big one made out of hay bales on the way to / from Atlanta that I need to try to get a picture of but I was going through at nighttime last week so didn’t get a picture. I love the fact that Kurt does this and changes it to make it holiday appropriate. Fun. Sounds like Mason City is set to get 6 – 8 inches today/tonight. What about you guys?
Snow is falling here as I write. But I think we’re only supposed to get an inch or so. I hope that’s the case as I will be the one shoveling. Do you have your snow removal person lined up?
Anyone who knows Minions would recognize them in Kurt’s sculpture. He did an excellent job.
Ha ha ha. I can see why you confused the two. If you haven’t seen Despicable Me 1 & 2 – do so, you will get a chuckle.
I watched a trailer yesterday and thought, I really should see that movie. The last movie I watched in a theater was The Help. How many years ago has that been? I seldom watch movies, even at home.
Like you said, you kinda have to have little ones around to know who these guys are, I can see a little sponge bob, you weren’t totally off. This guy is amazing in making these snow sculptures, I always look forward to what his newest creation might be.

Yes, Kurt’s sculptures are impressive. He brings a lot of joy to winter in Faribault.

Now that’s cute! My granddaughter loves the Minions. And her Dad laughed at Spongebob Squarepants. Yeah, we know the difference, but I see your point! I hope you post a St. Patrick’s day photo, too. I wonder which camera you’ll be using? 🙂

Some people are so talented. What a wonderful piece of art in your yard and a way to support MS. You folks have been blasted with snow and cold, but here in northern Idaho with my daughter there isn’t any snow. What a surprise.
Just snowed here this AM. We actually have not had much snow. And southwestern Minnesota, where I traveled last weekend, was bare ground.
Who’s Spongebob Squarepants? Just kidding! But I, too, am woefully behind the times when it comes to cartoon figures. Rocky and Bullwinkle, anyone?

Aww..love the Minions. I only know about them as Great Niece wanted a “stuffed” Minion for Christmas a year ago. Yes I do agree, the snow Minions are cute and the creator did a great job.
I will now be on the alert for Minions. I’ve just never noticed them before.
Our world is so big that we do not know everything. One examples are snow ball lanterns which are popular here in Finland. Do people make them in Minnesota? I am like your husband – never heard or seen. They are great in Your photos. Thank You showing them.

They are easy to make when there is snow. In the dark night they light beautifully. Simple guide how to do them:
– make snow balls.
– put inside colorful candle and light it.
