DAYS AFTER I BRUSHED aside leaf mulch, my crocuses are in full bloom under the bold sunlight of March here in southern Minnesota.
Veins run through the cupped purple petals popping with golden centers. They are beautiful to behold. Vibrant in a landscape of brown.
Due to the unseasonably mild Minnesota winter, these crocuses are blooming weeks earlier than usual. Had I not uncovered the perennials several days ago to find a lone blossom leaning, I would have missed this explosion of color in my front yard flowerbed.
I admire crocuses, daffodils and tulips, the first brave flowers of spring. That they even survive in this harsh climate seems a miracle in itself. Crocuses store food in corms, their underground stem system.
And so I want to take a moment to celebrate this clutch of crocuses, to recognize the importance of noticing that which is right before our eyes. All too often we hurry through our days without pausing to appreciate the little things. The flush of blossoms. The bright flash of a cardinal. The scurrying of a squirrel. Today may you stop, look and see, really see, the beauty within this day.
TELL ME: What little thing are you seeing today that bring you joy?

beautiful sight, and today I will welcome the sun, not only for the warmth, but for the light
No sun shining bright here today. But it has all week. And, like you, I am thankful for its warmth and light.
My Favorite time of year!
Savor every moment, Penny.
we have all kinds of spring flowers blooming and the pollen is everywhere. Ah choo! We were at 70 degrees yesterday and 76 today. Yahoo!
Definitely sounds like you are full into spring. The temp reached near 70 here yesterday.
We have had a pair of robins hanging around our yard for the past couple days. Another wonderful sign of spring.
I love that you are taking time to notice that pair of robins. Yes, a sure sign of spring.
An alien fairy and also some crocuses. HA
We are on a similar wave-length.
Sorry, I have missed those Northern type of flowers. Here in Texas, the Blue Bonnets are out and my late wife would love to go for a drive to see the open fields of them. These are pretty much a Southern Texas thing. My late wife would plant bunches of flowers only to see them eaten up by the deer. Trees here are letting their old leaves fall and sprouting new leaves (odd, I know – takes some getting used to). Enjoy. I wish you all a very Happy Spring.
Happy spring to you also, Gunny. I hope you go for a drive to see the Blue Bonnets in honor of your dear wife.
My crocuses are up as well, they look alot like yours. Not sure if they will vrave the 30 degree temp. the greens of my Tulips and day lilies are up about an inch. It’s so fun watching spring unfold
This cold weather (which I know you love) has not been good for these perennials. Time will tell the full affect. Snow coming this week. I can just see you smiling.
