Really, the unbeatable Vikings? And what about that stadium? January 12, 2012

WITH A CURRENT 3 – 13 regular season record, the Minnesota Vikings rate as anything but unbeatable. You know this. I know this.

So when my husband and I spotted this misplaced “unbeatable” signage posted above a rack of Vikings shirts at a major discount retailer in Faribault recently, we simply had to laugh at the clearly inaccurate message as it relates to the football team’s wins and losses.

Sometimes you have to find the humor in this whole Vikings fiasco. And I’m not talking just the season record here.

NOW THAT I’VE OPENED that topic to discussion, how do you feel about plans for a new Vikings stadium? Do you support a new stadium? Why or why not? If yes, where should the stadium be built and how should it be financed?

Stadium proposals are due in to Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton by 5 p.m. today. State legislators are then supposedly going to resolve the stadium issue during the upcoming legislative session. One can only hope.

Go ahead, submit a comment and tell them what you think.

Sure they can have a new stadium. But if they can have a new field to play on, why can’t they donate to my “buy new car fund,” “buy a house” fund,” “save for future children fund,” “student loans fund,” etc. I could keep going. I am all about sports teams receiving a new home field, but there is NO reason why it can’t come out of their 20 million dollar paychecks. You know that 90% of them are only in it for the money and just blow it anyway, so why not take a pay cut and “blow it” on a new stadium….

I agree with Amy. What millions do the Vikings put back into this state?? If only a few bars make money by being close to the stadium let them put money in. If I made millions each year you can bet I would be ashamed, let me repeat that, ASHAMED to ask for money to build what benfits only a few in the state of Minnesota. Maybe we need to let them go and cheer the Gophers on!!! Most other states prefer their college teams we have only to look at Iowa with the Hawkeyes.

There you go, Governor, legislators and Vikings, another strong opinion from an outstate Minnesotan.

Well here is my 2 cents, if they REALLY want a new stadium then they should have to earn it. I propose this: When the Vikings win a game everyone in the stadium needs to pay an exit fee of something like a buck to leave. That money can be used towards the new stadium. By the end of next year they should have about $1000 in their cookie jar. 😉

Michele, you just earned a creative thinking award for coming up with this Vikings stadium financing plan. What a grand idea, earning the stadium.

A plan like this can work. When my younger siblings and cousins performed plays at family gatherings back in the day, they didn’t charge admission. Audience members had to pay to leave. Worked like a charm. Of course, their theatrical performances were actually winners.
