LIKE ME, I’M CERTAIN you’ve had those moments when you’ve stopped, halted by an unexpected scene.
That happened shortly before 9 a.m. Friday as I passed through the living room toward my home office. I noticed shafts of sunlight slanting across the beige carpet in front of the La-Z-Boy recliner.
The house had been dark and shuttered for days due to high heat and humidity. But on this blessedly cool early August morning, the windows and front interior door were flung wide, though the drapes were still partially-closed. Through those gaps and openings, the bright morning sun angled a cross onto the floor.
I stood there for a moment taking in the scene before grabbing my camera from my office. I needed to document this, to visually imprint the comfort I felt in seeing that cross—a reminder for me of my Christian faith and the hope I have in Christ. He is always with me. In difficult times and in joyful times.
Not every sermon comes from the pulpit. On this beautiful morning, a message came in slants of sunshine upon my carpet.

Woah! That is intense! How cool!
I knew you would appreciate this image.
Audrey that cross is priceless!! Happy to know you even have a photo of it. God bless you and the family. Love to all of you, Aunt Dorothy
Thank you, Aunt Dorothy, thank you.
We just arrived home from Amber and Marc’s house after watching Isabelle last evening. I love being a grandma.
It is always good to pay attention to these seemingly random messages. I read your blog each day, and share some of them with family. We grew up in Dundas, went to Northfield High School, I lived and worked in Faribault for a bit, Two sisters currently live in Kenyon…so MANY of your blogs are very interesting to us. And we love the old cars…and the farm stories and pictures.I have live in St Paul for many years … and you can take the girl out of the country…but you can’t take the country out of the girl!
Thank you for your kind and sweet words. You are right. You cannot take the country out of the girl.
Now this was an amazing random occurrence that you were lucky to document. Perhaps a sign for the greater power you have been blessed with his presence. I guess you’ll never know. But something to think about.
God is present in my life every day. Of that I am certain. This cross on my carpet visually affirms that. To see that cross was a blessing.
Some may have seen it and thought nothing of it…. I love how you took it in and loved what you saw…. the cross and what it represents. How lovely!!! I love that we can see God in places that we wouldnt expect, He is everywhere, I’m glad you noticed, what a blessing for you on this morning!
I literally just stood in the living room and looked and looked. It was pretty amazing.
That is neat. It reminds me of waking up at my Grandparents farm as a child. They had prisims hanging in the kitchen windows.
Oh, how light dances off those.
thank you
