LAST WEEKEND, MY DAFFODILS bloomed, bright and brilliant in the first blush of spring.

Photographed Saturday afternoon, the seven inches of snow have mostly melted off my daffodils.

My daffodils, photographed Saturday afternoon, emerging from seven inches of disappearing snow.

Today they lie in a pathetic heap, heads bowed, even buried, in a veil of snow.

A tulip bud, bent to the snow.

A tulip bud, bent to the snow.

Nearby, tulip buds droop, leaves splayed, vulnerable to the frigid air and the rough crystals of melting snow in this endless winter.

Determined day lilies.

Determined day lilies.

In my backyard, determined day lilies soldier up through the snow.

Bendy raspberry branches in bud.

Bendy raspberry branches in bud.

A stone’s throw away, wild raspberries defy the weather, arcing branches, buds unfurling into the promise of spring.

A raspberry bud unfurling.

A raspberry bud unfurling.

Hope. I saw hope today that this longest of all winters may finally exit Minnesota.

Not warm and gorgeous here. So glad it is in Houston. I checked out your prom photos. Cute, cute couple.

They are great and the eldest GS (who is working at his uncle’s convenience store in Houston) is the quieter one who may pop in to the After Prom Party. Still can’t believe he will be graduating soon!!!!!!

They grow up so quickly. So quickly.

I have to wonder if my crocus’s will survive the 15.5inches of snow dumped on them this week. I think by the end of tomorrow I shall know πŸ™‚ It’s really amazing how hardy those little guys really are.

I am delighted to report that my daffodils have sprung back this a.m. They are hardy.

  3. Oh, that does give hope! I love close-ups of life emerging from the receding snows. Beautiful. Happy Sunday, Audrey.

I love these hopeful photos! I was in Waterville yesterday–they had a total of 0″ snow accumulation. Crazy!

Yes, that’s interesting. A friend told my husband at church this morning that he had only a few inches. And he lives just west of town not all that far.

I was out collecting trees the other day and Sandy ( The Matriarch ) said how she always enjoys your comments, she is so worried about you out there in this infernal snow.. a winter that will not let up is not good for a woman she said, it wears on her, but you have stood up to it with grace and fortitude, not long now I hope, and you will have some flowers. Love from all of us! So proud to be your friend, Audrey.. c

You two are so sweet, so sweet to worry about me. Today I can report sunshine and warmth and only a few piles of remaining snow. The daffodils have sprung back and maybe a few of the tulips will even bloom. The forecast for the next few days is temps in the 70s. Yes, winter wears on a soul. But I do believe winter is done now.

  6. I hurt for your frozen flowers. Today is spring-like in Wgtn. Halleujah!
