A short photo essay of a tractor parade, rural Dundas, Minnesota September 7, 2012

The Oliver was the featured tractor in this year’s Rice County Steam and Gas Engines Show, rural Dundas, Minnesota.

They start ’em driving tractors young. Not to worry; an adult was on the tractor, too.

And younger…

And as young as six weeks old. Doesn’t baby Kelly/Kelli (not sure on the spelling) look just like her dad?

Tractor buffs of all ages, and with all types of tractors, join the parade.

The parade of tractors and other vehicles just goes on and on.

  1. We own a Super C and I just love a tractor! I have attended the flea market at Dundas in the past that goes with this event! What fun.

I’m always asking my husband, “What kind of tractor is that?” I only possess general knowledge, like that’s a John Deere, that’s a Farmall…

I love these pictures! I only know the red and green ones…..:-)

Do people not smile when they’re driving a tractor?

    • Audrey Kletscher Helbling's avatar Audrey Kletscher Helbling Says:

Well, now, Bob, you raise an interesting question. So I went back through my photos and looked at some of the images I didn’t share and different frames of the same people featured here. Only the girl in the second shot smiled, when she noticed me with my camera. One other tractor driver, who also spotted me, smiled for the camera. Otherwise, no smiles.

Any readers care to explain/answer Bob’s question/provide insight?

I drive in parades and we usually are too busy watching for kids, or adults to walk out in front of us slow movers, or watching the tractor in front of us. If ya holler, we’ll look smile and wave. Give ’em a yell next time. We are proud of our tractors, but not so much that we are conceeded. KWIM

I prefer unposed photos, so I didn’t have an issue or problem with the lack of smiles. It was just a reader’s observation. I can totally understand where you would need to stay focused because there most certainly are a lot of people milling about who could easily get run over. Thanks for thinking safety first.

I’ve never seen so many tractors. I’m so glad they let the kids be involved. When mine were that age they would have just loved it xx

And this is just a small sampling of the tractors at the show and in the parade. This is very much a family-friendly event.

I love tractors almost as much as barns. Thanks for sharing the pics !

I love this post. Although I had never a tractor, I like. The tractor parades are not known in Finland, but we have tractor meetings twice a year here where I live.

Threshing events, which include tractor parades, are pretty popular here in Minnesota in August. There are also tractor parades along back country roads, although I’ve never (yet) seen one.
