TUESDAY EVENING, APRIL 23, and I’ve just finished supper when I spy a motorcycle on the street.

Any other spring, and I would not give this mode of transportation a second thought nor grab my camera.

But this is no ordinary April in Minnesota. The six inches of snow which fell Monday into early Tuesday morning in Faribault have mostly melted, but plenty still blankets the landscape.

Forty degrees. Snow on the ground. And a biker hits the road.

As crazy as this appears, I recall seeing a motorcyclist riding in 30 degree temps a few months ago.

Thoughts?

And here I am to comment! Surprised? Of course not! Batteries still not in the bikes! 27F here….but there is sun (really???). Back to cloudy/rain later. The bikes are out around here most definitely but we haven’t got the snowscape you are blessed(?) with. Now, the talk is we will bypass Spring and jump right to summer (temps). The “old farmers” who have been through this before know more than the young/upstart weather people, don’t you think???? Hugs from the frozen Heartland………

Nope, not at all surprised to hear from you. I know you told me that last weekend bikes were out for the flood ride in your area and you expressed concern about the sand remnants on roadways.

My husband talked to a guy who says the Farmers’ Almanac predicts snow in May. I won’t even argue that. I have seen snow in May.

Same here. Snow in May was the topic of talk at quilt group last Monday eve. Someone remembered a Mother’s Day with snow!! Sigh…….

I remember driving back from my mom’s place in southwestern Minnesota once on Memorial Day weekend and, when arriving in New Ulm, seeing a car with snow on the trunk. Not exactly certain where that car had come from. But when we got home to Faribault, we found snow. On Memorial Day weekend.

    • I knew you would chime in! 🙂 Our kids pulled out their bicycles inbetween snow storms…so I guess motorcycles make sense, too! I heard someone today say that we’ll skip spring temps and go straight to summer. I about gasped with shock. Please, no!!!!

A hardy soul for sure! Hoping the warmth is coming…..

    • Audrey Kletscher Helbling Says:

Warm temps predicted for later this weekend. Yeah. Not so good, though, for the flood situation in Fargo with a fast melt.

  3. M. Hatzel Says:

I’m actually jealous–you’ve got less snow than we have.

    • Audrey Kletscher Helbling Says:

Now you would be in Saskatchewan, correct? Perhaps I ought to stop whining.

Just to show my defiance to winter, I hung my laundry out this morning in 30-degree temps, after shoveling the snow from my patio. My movable clothesline strings across the patio when in use.

      • M. Hatzel Says:

Good for you; line-dried laundry is my favourite thing. Yes, I’m in Saskatchewan. I shouldn’t complain, snow is melting. Not long ago the 6′ back fence was buried, now half is visible. 😉

      • Audrey Kletscher Helbling Says:

Now that’s a lot of snow with a six-foot fence buried. I grew up on the southwestern Minnesota prairie and I recall many childhood winters of deep deep snow and enormous drifts sculpted by the unceasing wind.

  4. Certainly Hardy and Just Going With It!!! Have a Great Day:)

Way to go men on Cycles! It is never a “bad” time to play with “our Toys”. If I could dig my Vette out from storage, I would have the top down and drive like the mighty winds!!! Remember Women, “We don’t ask for directions, so why would we have to ask to ride in the open Spring like weather?? My Wife just looked over my shoulder and said, ” Nature, weeding out the stupid”!!!! What does she mean? 🙂

This photo just made me smile 🙂

I saw the bike, ran for my office, grabbed my camera and shot four shots through the living room window. How’s that for “spot news” photography?
