Minnesota Faces: A VBS student August 7, 2015

Portrait #34: Kaleb, age 5 ½

Portrait 34, VBS student Kaleb

All week I’ve photographed sweet faces like Kaleb’s. Through my Canon viewfinder, I’ve seen the smiles, the excitement, the genuine joy expressed by some 50 students attending Vacation Bible School at my church, Trinity Lutheran in Faribault.

It’s been a good week. Monday – Thursday I’ve volunteered two hours each evening to capture moments. One thousand images imprinted on my CF card. Hours of work the next morning sorting through and editing photos.

But what a blessing to have done this, to have relived my own wonderful experience with VBS (although mine was quite different), to witness the exuberance and energy of youth, to work side-by-side with other adults, to share our joy in Christ.

I look at the sweet face of Kaleb and hope this 5 ½-year-old will always remember fragments of his week at VBS—arts and crafts, chasing bubbles on the church grounds, raising his arms in praise, munching a warm-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookie…

It’s been a good week with a great group of VBS kids.

You really have an eye for faces. You capture their character so well.

    Ahhhhh…..the sweet memories…………………….

  3. He is going to take the world by storm – Great Capture! I have to say I am fond of the 4 to 6 year old set. They are so open to their worlds – so stinkin smart, funnier than funny, creative, expressive, full of joy and promise, etc. 🙂

    Happy Weekend – Enjoy!

What a sweet child. I have very fond memories of VBS. It’s funny how some things stick with you over the years and some don’t.

  5. Maureen | Orgasmic Chef Says:

I love this photo. He’s really cute. I remember years ago when my kids would go to VBS and bring home treasures to save for a lifetime.

  6. Beth Ann Says:

What a a fun week. VBS is exhausting but so much fun! I have always loved being a part of them where we have lived. Caleb is adorable.

  7. Marilyn Says:

Memories for sure. I am baking cookies (Grandma’s recipe-Farmer’s Guide-old periodical). The recipe box was the last VBS craft item I did as a 6th grader. It is a perfect size for a 3×5 file box.

  8. Jackie Says:

Such a sweet face to capture, and how fun for you doing the very thing you love to do, photograph people (and places). I will be sitting in the Snack shop this coming week for our VBS. I had to have a job that didn’t require walking, so I will sit and hand out snacks 🙂

  9. Sue Ready Says:

With all these images you took I hope you created a bulletin of VBS students. Did you bring a picture of your Caleb to show Kaleb?

    • A slideshow was presented after church services this weekend. But that features only a small snippet of the 35 – 40 images I selected for each day from the hundreds taken daily. I like your idea of creating something printed. Maybe we can do this and send thank yous to the families of those who attended. Thanks for the prompt.

Some of my photos are on the Trinity Facebook page at this link: https://www.facebook.com/Trinityfaribault
