I’VE WRITTEN HERE before about the Kenyon Police Department Facebook page. It’s a feel-good innovative use of social media. Truly positive and refreshing.
Now there’s one more reason to love this Facebook page. Officer Goodman (a puppet) has joined the KPD family. He makes his debut this evening by reading a children’s picture book, My Daddy Snores written by Nancy Rothstein and illustrated by Stephen Gilpin.
This might just be a new bed-time routine for you and your kids. Or you. There’s something comforting about a police officer puppet reading a story as if he’s a schooled children’s librarian. Or simply a police chief who continues to care deeply for others. That would be Kenyon Police Chief Lee Sjolander.

That’s just pretty darned cool!!
Isn’t it? The KPD Facebook page is just “pretty darned cool.”
The name of the illustrator of this book jumped out at me. Pretty sure he grew up in our town. A bedtime story is a neat idea!
How cool is that? Did you research to see for sure if the illustrator hails from your town?
Yes, I did and he is. I knew he was an illustrator of children’s books but with our children and grandchildren grown I hadn’t checked out any of his books. Just for kicks and giggles I put this book, My Daddy Snores, on hold at the library. I also found out our grandson lives in the same town as he does though doubt their paths will cross… the city population being just over 3000. Grandson works in another town and often travels for his work.
Lots of connecting dots here. Enjoy the book.
Too many police officers have been designated as villains lately, some deservedly so, but for the most part they are good honest people who do a very dangerous, yet necessary, job for their communities! It is really great to see something like this that verifies the goodness of the working cops on duty 24/7!
I agree with you 100 percent, Jake.
What a fun idea. I will forward this blog link to my son in Africa…something different.
I agree. What a great and innovative way to reach out, to show how much the Kenyon Police Department cares. It’s all about a sense of community in Kenyon.
Ha ha I haven’t come across that book before. Too cute
Another bedtime story from Officer Goodman is now on the KPD Facebook page.
