MY HOMETOWN IS SO SMALL…
…that on a Sunday evening, as the sun slides toward the prairie, I can stand in the middle of the street by my mom’s house and photograph her shadow and that of my husband and myself.

The shadows of my 81-year-old mom, left, my husband in the middle and me on the right, on a residential street in Vesta, Minnesota.
We plant our feet on the asphalt and laugh at our 25-foot tall, long-legged selves.
As we pose and wave and I struggle to hold my camera still for the laughter, I imprint this moment upon my memory: Prairie light and prairie sky and prairie town. And two people I cherish and love beside me, laughing in the moment at our silly shadows on a splendid summer evening.

I LOVE this picture!!! What a great shot and it sounds as if you had a fabulous weekend! I am so glad. Getaways and seeing family are so special and precious. Can’t wait to see some of what you saw over the long weekend. I am sure it will be spectacular.
The best part was my mom joining us for this photo. We had a great time at the family reunion as well as having dinner with blogger Gretchen O’Donnell and her family on the Minnesota/Iowa state line and exploring lots of sites in southwestern Minnesota. I have nearly 900 photos to sort through and probably weeks of blogging material. And I’m already behind from our trip to northeastern Iowa a month ago.
Ok, I guessed that it was your mom on the left, as I figured that most 81 year olds wouldn’t be wearing shorts. 🙂 Fun shot! I hope you had a wonderful reunion!! Thanks so much for making us a part of your weekend. That meant a lot.
Randy had gone for a short walk and pointed out the long shadows to my mom and me. I saw an instant photo opp and Mom gladly joined us. It’s a moment the three of us will always remember, acting like kids, giggling at our shadows. Maybe we should have played shadow tag.
What long legs you have, my dear! 🙂
That’s a great comment, Stacey. LOL.
Great photo Audrey…it’s a keeper!
Thanks, Jackie. Fun to try something like this. I told my mom and husband to “wave.”
