FORGET BILLBOARDS to push furniture and mattresses in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Instead, try guerrilla gorilla marketing.

Hire someone to dress in a hot pink gorilla costume. Station the ape at the corner of a crazy busy intersection (Northland Avenue and North 47) and you’re good to go.

Tell me, does this type of gimmick really work?

๐Ÿ™‚ This is always entertaining to see. Subway and pizza joints do this frequently in the St.Paul/Minneapolis metro area.

  2. Beth Ann Says:

Beats me. That is a crazy looking gorilla. I guess it makes you look but it certainly would not make me go buy a mattress from them.

  3. Missy's Crafty Mess Says:

Well you couldn’t miss that. I don’t think that it would make me shop in there store though. Maybe if it was a cute sheep in front of a yarn store. I’d rather see the real thing thou.

Bet their sales are going APE!

I don’t know but there’s a “Statue of Liberty” costumed person on several corners in LaCrosse (and other towns) advertising Liberty Tax Service! Curious what they get paid for that. Some years it’s been very hot (last year) but mostly it’s frigid!!!!!

We were just in the Seattle area north side of the city, Lynnwood, to be exact. My son and I were discussing these people, which are common all over the West Coast. (He has lived in San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco and Seattle.) Some people out there holding or by signs are dancing. I at first thought they were just killing time, but Nate says they get paid more to dance, and of course, in warmer weather some are dancing in briefer costumes than the mattress gorilla. He said that the dancers get paid much more. He has a friend whose wife did it in San Diego. The friend says the pay if you dance is pretty good and yes people do stop because of it. Nate drove me around Lynnwood and easily found four different kind of dancers.
BTW, when were out there two weeks ago, Nate drove us up into the Cascades on the road now buried under mud.

  7. OMG – I saw the 1st pic and thought here we go with pink gorillas! Does the pink gorilla dance – love the dancing if it is good dancing?!? Much better than the clown in yesterday’s news scaring drivers:( The one furniture store was not getting much action from individuals twirling signs, so they now have cars that drive around on the weekend with BIG billboards on top of vehicles – pretty interesting sight to see – especially when they all stop at the same place for lunch. At least it keeps my commute and driving around interesting and unique!!! Happy Hump Day:)

  8. I think it’s quite entertaining to send a pink gorilla out to do advertising. And fun! Why not?

This would just confuse me…a pink ape that wants you to buy a mattress, I dont think so, and what the heck is a “tax sale”?
